Dangerously cold wind chills are expected this week as arctic high-pressure building south into the lower Missouri Valley will bring the coldest airmass of the season with dangerously cold wind chills expected both Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

A Wind Chill Watch will be in effect from Tuesday evening at 6:00 pm through Thursday morning at 9:00 am as dangerously cold wind chills be possible. Wind chills as low as 40 below zero will be possible for portions of northeast Kansas and central, north central, northeast, northwest and west-central Missouri.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

A Wind Chill Watch means there is the potential for a combination of very cold air and the wind to create dangerously low wind chill values. Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates on this situation.

Counties included in the watch area are Adair, Andrew, Atchison, Buchanan, Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, De Kalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Holt, Howard, Linn, Livingston, Macon, Mercer, Nodaway, Platte, Putnam, Randolph, Ray, Saline, Schuyler, Sullivan and Worth counties.
