Vera Mae (Cottrell) Miller obit photoVera Mae (Cottrell) Miller, an 83-year-old resident of Trenton, Grundy County, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2024.

Vera was born on May 20, 1941, in Arcanum, Ohio to Alvin Leroy and Esther Mae (Billhimer) Cottrell.  She married Wayne Henry Miller on June 21, 1959, on the lawn at her parent’s home.  Timothy Wayne and Todd Weldon Miller were born into this union.

She was baptized into the Old Order German Baptist Brethren Church in 1964.  She drafted dress patterns for the sisters to make their uniforms for many years.  She made many dresses for the denomination.  She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, creating sweaters for her family.

In 1976, she laid off the uniform and the family moved to Burbank, Ohio in 1978.  She continued the pattern making and sewing, but she retired the sewing machine when she started working for the United States Post Office.  She worked in the USPS from 1985 to 2000 when she and Wayne decided to retire.  For three years they spent winters in Florida.

When their son, Tim, moved to Missouri in 2000, they visited every year and Tim wanted them to move to Missouri.  In 2003, they found the farm that had character and potential, packed up everything they had accumulated in 44 years, and moved themselves to Missouri.  This move gave them new enthusiasm for life.

Vera was baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the 10th Street Baptist Church in 2007.  From 2003 to 2019, she again worked part-time in the Laredo Post Office, Laredo, MO.  She and her husband had attended LifePoint Church in Chillicothe, MO since 2018.  A life-long search was realized when she could say, “Jesus is my Lord and Savior”.

Her husband, Wayne, went to be with the Lord on November 9, 2020.  She was remarried to Billie Dougherty on October 21, 2023.

Vera is survived by her sons, Tim (Leisa), and Todd (Jackie), five grandchildren, Keith, Mitchell (Kari), Shannon (Ian), Matthew (Kaylin), and Megan, two step-grandchildren, Sabrina (Kirby) and Damon (Haley), nine great-grandchildren, Garrett, Benjamin, Ryan, Colt, Milo, Zoey, Henry, Marko, Emilija, and Brian, three step-great-grandchildren, Bennett, Avery, and Emely, a brother Kenneth Cottrell of Camden, IN, and a special friend Rose Marie Baker Gibson of Rittman, OH.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2024, at Resthaven Mortuary of Trenton.  Burial will follow in Eller Cemetery near Harris, MO.  A visitation is scheduled from 6 until 7 on Monday evening at the funeral home.  Memorial donations are suggested to the Eller Cemetery and may be left with or mailed to the funeral home.
