Over 250 members and guests gathered on August 1 for the Grundy Electric Cooperative’s annual membership meeting.

Before the business session, GEC Community Foundation President Cliff Addison and Foundation Trustee Tony Nelson awarded fourth-quarter grants to local schools, totaling $9,339.

President Eric Woodard announced that the Board of Directors approved a capital credit refund of 100% for 1991 and 25% for 2023, amounting to $199,597.12. These refunds will be credited to members’ October bills.

General Manager Scott Wilson addressed the audience, detailing the cooperative’s power delivery through a right-of-way plan and ongoing maintenance, including pole replacement and reconductoring efforts. He also highlighted electronic and software upgrades and discussed the rate adjustment implemented this year, citing rising costs and increased regulations as the primary reasons.

Three directors were elected to serve three-year terms. Re-elected were board incumbents Adrian Cox of rural Trenton, representing Area 1; Dan Lentz of rural Browning, representing Area 2; and Alan Guernsey of rural Bethany, representing Area 5.

Members also voted in favor of a bylaw amendment proposition, allowing greater flexibility regarding the appointment and meeting schedule of the nominating committee.

The event featured a prize drawing with six electric bill credits for $200, two Visa gift cards for $50, a $100 Home Depot gift card, a $75 Washington Street gift certificate, and a Vizio TV.

Mercer County 4-H members served dinner, and entertainment was provided by Jeremiah Hamilton and Makayla Mejia.

Following the annual meeting, Grundy Electric Cooperative directors held a reorganizational meeting to elect officers. The elected officers are President Eric Woodard, Vice President Joe Hartley, Secretary Marvin Harding, Treasurer Richard Moore, and Assistant Secretary Alan Guernsey. Other board members include Rodney Ewing, Dan Lentz, and Adrian Cox.
