As the year 2045 approaches, only 21 years away, the Unionville community is taking proactive steps to plan for its future. A crucial meeting to discuss long-term community planning and development is scheduled for Tuesday, August 20, at the Bixler Building, located on the west side of the Unionville Square. The meeting will commence at 6:00 p.m.

This meeting is open to all residents, young and old, who are interested in shaping the future of Unionville. The event is particularly important given the challenges the community faces, such as the loss of businesses and the current state of infrastructure.

Scott Sharp, Project Manager with the Missouri Department of Economic Development and liaison for North Missouri, will be present to provide guidance and answer questions. His expertise is expected to be invaluable in helping the community explore grants and other programs that could support Unionville’s growth and revitalization.

One of the key focuses of the meeting will be the importance of developing a long-range plan, something the community has not undertaken in many years. Sharp will discuss various grant opportunities and other programs that require such a plan to be in place. The meeting will also explore how to implement this plan effectively, setting priorities and establishing timelines.

While Unionville has seen some progress with projects like the murals, there is a growing consensus that the community needs a more comprehensive approach to planning. The meeting is seen as the first step toward this goal.

Residents who are unable to attend the meeting are encouraged to share their ideas and suggestions with the organizers. Joe Koenen can be reached at koenenjoe@outlook.com, Dana DeVore at (660) 216-0707, and Tom Keedy at (660) 626-7803. The organizers are particularly eager to hear from the younger members of the community, though input from all is welcome.
