Trenton police have concluded their investigation into a property damage accident involving an unattended vehicle that rolled from one parking lot, crossed a public street, and ended up in another parking lot where it struck a tree.

Police Sergeant Jared Hogan reported the incident began at a gas pump at Casey’s on East 9th Street. The driver exited the sport utility vehicle and went inside the store. When the driver returned, the vehicle was no longer there. Believing it had been stolen, the driver notified the police.

Using security camera footage, police determined that the vehicle had not been stolen. The engine was running, and the car rolled eastward in Casey’s parking lot, jumped a curb, crossed a grassy area, then crossed Custer Street, and continued into the parking lot of the former Freedom Motors business, where it came to a stop after striking a small tree. Police noted extensive damage to the front end of the vehicle. The car was towed from the scene.

The accident report from August 13 indicated the vehicle was registered to an address in Leawood, Kansas. The name of the driver was not listed.
