A two-vehicle collision on Highway 59, approximately half a mile southeast of Oregon, Missouri, resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries early Sunday morning. The crash occurred at 3:29 a.m. when a northbound 2016 Chevrolet Malibu crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Ford EcoSport.

The driver of the Chevrolet Malibu, Chelsey J. Guyer, 21, of Fillmore, Missouri, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. The vehicle was reported to have rotated counterclockwise and traveled off the east side of the roadway before coming to rest on its wheels. Guyer sustained serious injuries and was initially transported by the Atchison-Holt Ambulance District to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. She was later airlifted by LifeNet to Truman Medical Center for further treatment.

An occupant of the Chevrolet Malibu, Peyton A. Ohnemus, 18, of Oregon, Missouri, was also seriously injured in the crash. Ohnemus was wearing a seat belt and was transported by the Andrew County Ambulance District to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.

The driver of the Ford EcoSport, Angela S. Woods, 57, of Oregon, Missouri, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Acting Holt County Coroner Steve Portman at 3:49 a.m. Woods was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. Wood’s body was transported by Chamberlin Funeral Home to their facility in Oregon, Missouri.

Both vehicles were reported as totaled and were towed from the scene by Double-D Towing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Holt County Sheriff’s Department and the South Holt Fire Department.

Although Guyer was released for medical treatment, the patrol has accused her of first-degree involuntary manslaughter, 2nd-degree assault, and failure to register a motor vehicle. She’s also accused of failure to drive on the right half of the road resulting in an accident and there’s a seat belt violation.
