Two rounds of rain, with locally heavy rainfall, predicted for northern Missouri today

Two rounds of storms are expected to affect the state today, (Wednesday, August 14, 2024) bringing heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and the potential for small hail. The first system is forecasted to move through northern and eastern Missouri this morning, while a second round is anticipated to cover the entire area this evening and into the night.

This morning, ongoing showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue across northern and central Missouri. The primary concern with these storms is the potential for locally heavy rainfall, with amounts ranging from 1 to 3 inches.

Later today, additional thunderstorms are possible in the late afternoon and evening. The National Weather Service has indicated that some of these storms could be strong to severe, particularly in northeast Kansas and northwestern Missouri. Residents are advised to stay alert and monitor weather updates throughout the day.

Wednesday: Showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly before 3 p.m., with some storms producing heavy rainfall. The day will start cloudy, gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 83°F. East-southeast winds of 5 to 15 mph are expected, with gusts up to 25 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%, with new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms are likely, with some storms producing heavy rainfall. The low will be around 71°F, with southeast winds of 9 to 11 mph and gusts as high as 22 mph. The chance of precipitation is 90%, with new rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Thursday: Showers are likely, with a possible thunderstorm before 7 a.m. and a slight chance of additional showers and thunderstorms after 7 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. The day will start mostly cloudy, gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 88°F. Heat index values may reach as high as 99°F. South winds around 10 mph will shift to west-southwest in the afternoon, with gusts up to 21 mph. The chance of precipitation is 60%, with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half an inch possible.
