Two dead, five injured in boating crash on Gasconade River

A boating accident occurred on the Gasconade River upstream from Pointers Creek in Osage County on the evening of September 1, 2024. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2002 Gatorboat traveling south struck a root wad, causing the vessel to collide with a rock bluff. The accident resulted in two fatalities and several injuries.

Injured Individuals:

  • Juvenile, male, age 0, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital by Cole County EMS. He was wearing a flotation device.
  • Juvenile, female, age 4, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital by Cole County EMS. She was wearing a flotation device.
  • Juvenile, female, age 7, sustained fatal injuries and was transported to Morton Funeral Home. She was wearing a flotation device.
  • Juvenile, female, age 9, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital by Osage County EMS. She was wearing a flotation device.
  • Taylor M. McClure, a 21-year-old woman from Bland, Missouri, sustained minor injuries and was treated on the scene. She was not wearing a flotation device.
  • Samantha Newbound, a 29-year-old woman from Owensville, Missouri, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the University of Missouri Hospital by air ambulance. She was not wearing a flotation device.
  • Reven N. Newbound, a 30-year-old man from Owensville, Missouri, the driver of the boat, sustained fatal injuries and was transported to Morton Funeral Home. He was not wearing a flotation device.

Both deceased individuals, Reven N. Newbound, and a 7-year-old juvenile, were pronounced deceased at 7:30 p.m. by Osage County Coroner AJ Probst.

This incident marks the first and second boating fatalities for September and the third and fourth for 2024 in Troop F’s jurisdiction. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted by several officers and a conservation agent during the response to the accident.
