In the early hours of Thursday morning, a collision on Highway 36, just a quarter-mile west of Shelbina, Missouri, led to multiple injuries and the involvement of emergency response teams. At approximately 4:40 a.m., a 2019 Freightliner, parked on the highway’s shoulder, was struck in the rear by a 2024 Freightliner, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The parked 2019 Freightliner was driven by Salim S. Munawari, a 32-year-old man from Houston, Texas. Munawari sustained minor injuries in the collision and was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident. He was transported by Macon County Ambulance to Samaritan Hospital for treatment. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Still Towing.
The 2024 Freightliner, driven by William B. Watson, a 45-year-old man from Nashville, Georgia, suffered total damage and was removed from the scene by Still Towing. Watson, who was also using a seat belt, incurred minor injuries and was taken to Hannibal Regional Hospital by Salt River Ambulance. Additionally, Sonya L. Watson, a 45-year-old woman from Nashville, Georgia, was in the vehicle with William Watson. She suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Hannibal Regional Hospital by Salt River Ambulance. It was noted that Sonya Watson was not using a seat belt during the accident.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Corporal Ewigman, CVO Jobson, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the Shelbina Fire Department, and the Missouri Department of Transportation.
