A Rope Rescue: Awareness/Operations class is scheduled to take place at the Trenton Fire Department from October 1 through October 3. The Trenton Fire Department, Grundy County Rural Fire Protection District, and University of Missouri Extension Division of Fire and Rescue Training Institute are collaborating to host the in-person event, which will run daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This free course is aimed at individuals who are new to technical rescue or those preparing for the State of Missouri Awareness/Operations certification exam. The course is designed for participants whose responsibilities include recognizing risks, utilizing equipment, and employing basic methods to carry out technical rescue missions.

The curriculum will cover the discussion, development, and application of essential skills in technical search and rescue. Kara Wehmeyer, a seasoned instructor, will lead the class.

The course will be delivered in a blended format, with participants completing four weeks of self-paced online coursework starting in early September. Following the completion of the online portion and the end-of-course exam, participants will attend in-person sessions focused on skills instruction and practical evolutions.

This training opportunity is sponsored by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety—Fire Education/Advisory Commission.
