Three-vehicle crash on Highway 136 leaves two cars totaled

A multi-vehicle accident occurred on Highway 136 east of Neon Road, approximately eight miles east of Maryville, on July 12, 2024, at around 7:20 p.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash involved a 2014 Nissan Versa, a 2009 Kia Optima, and a 2013 Volkswagen Passat, all traveling eastbound. The incident began when the Volkswagen Passat, driven by Cody Runde, 33, of Ravenwood, Missouri, slowed to make a left turn into a private driveway. The Kia Optima, driven by Rose Miller, 57, of Maryville, Missouri, followed suit and stopped behind the Volkswagen.

The 2014 Nissan Versa, driven by Jacole Hunzinger, 21, of Maryville, Missouri, attempted to avoid the stopped Kia Optima but struck it from behind. This collision caused the Nissan Versa to cross the center of the roadway and hit the left rear of the Volkswagen Passat.

As a result, both the Nissan Versa and the Kia Optima were totaled and towed from the scene by Shell’s. The Volkswagen Passat sustained minor damage and was driven away from the scene.

Jacole Hunzinger, the driver of the Nissan Versa, suffered minor injuries and was transported by a private vehicle to Mosaic Maryville. Jonathan Bliley, 53, of Stanberry, Missouri, an occupant of the Nissan Versa, sustained serious injuries and was transported by Nodaway County EMS to Mosaic Maryville.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Corporal B.E. Maudlin and the Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department.
