Three-vehicle collision near Stewartsville leaves one injured

A three-vehicle accident occurred on August 26, 2024, at approximately 5:13 p.m. at the intersection of Route K and Route Y, near Stewartsville, Missouri, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The crash involved a 2008 Subaru, a 2022 Ford Escape, and a 2014 Dodge Ram. The collision occurred as the Subaru, driven by Larry D. Melton, 82, of Stewartsville, Missouri, was making a left turn onto Route K. The Subaru was struck by the Ford Escape, which was traveling northbound on Route K. The impact caused the Subaru to spin and subsequently strike the Dodge Ram.

Mary J. Runyan, 18, of Stewartsville, Missouri, was identified as the driver of the Ford Escape. The vehicle sustained total damage and was towed from the scene by Scotty’s Towing. Ray D. Veale, 67, of King City, Missouri, was driving the Dodge Ram, which sustained minor damage and was driven away from the scene.

Larry D. Melton sustained minor injuries in the crash and was transported by DeKalb Clinton Ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri. Both Runyan and Veale were not reported to have sustained any injuries.

All drivers were reported to be wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident. The incident was assisted by Sergeant S. J. Cool and Trooper T. N. Garton.
