A single-vehicle accident involving a 2009 Toyota Matrix occurred on July 13, 2024, at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Route A, six miles northwest of Trenton, Missouri.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the vehicle, driven by a 16-year-old girl from Trenton, Missouri, failed to negotiate a curve while traveling northbound. The Toyota Matrix veered off the north side of the roadway, overturned, traveled through a barbed wire fence, and came to rest on its wheels off the road.
The driver, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene. There were two juvenile passengers in the vehicle, neither of whom was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. A 14-year-old girl suffered serious injuries and was ejected through the passenger side window. She was transported by Life-Flight Eagle to Children’s Mercy Hospital. The other passenger, a 15-year-old girl, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by Mercer County EMS to Wright Memorial Hospital.
The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Ewing’s.
