Rosemary Read Obit photoRosemary Read, 81, of Browning, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at home, surrounded by her loved ones.

Rosemary was born on July 14, 1943, in Independence, Missouri to Benjamin and Bonnie (Hart) Bailey. She grew up in the Independence area, graduating from William Cristman High School. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol while in school and met President Harry S. Truman. During her seventh-grade year she met Earl Read. They were married on May 8, 1959, in Liberty, Missouri. They moved to Colorado for a time where she was a dental lab technician and also was a flagman on I-70 for the Eisenhower bridge, before moving back to Missouri and to their farm east of Browning, Missouri in 1976.

Rosemary is survived by children; Maria Smith of Holden, Missouri, Katy Clemens(Kevin) of Weston, Missouri and Ben Read (Shawna) of Richmond, Missouri, grandchildren; Amanda Read, April Protas (John), Jameson Read, Maggie Pore (John), Rose Smith, Matthew Clemens, Aurora Read, Evelina Read, Sophia Read, Earl Read, Harvey Read, Paul Read, Jules Read, Ozzy Read, and Varinia Read, great grandchildren; Andrew Protas, Alexander Protas, Aria Protas, Alanna Franklin, Eli Reed, Charlotte Pore, Francis Pore, Ivy Smith, and Samuel Pore, great great-grandchild Violet, two sisters; Ruthann Tyrell of Lakewood, Colorado and Ramona(Jack) Renslow of Downs, Kansas, and several nieces and nephews. Rosemary was preceded by her parents, Husband Earl Read, sons Johnny Loyd Read in infancy and Lawrence Read, grandson Derek Bowman, brother John Bailey and sister Roi Katherine Fitzgerald.

Rosemary was a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed gardening, horses, and helping raise livestock. She enjoyed painting and liked to read and research holistic medicines. She most of all loved to spend time with her family and tell stories about the old days.

A Graveside service for Rosemary will be held at 12:30PM on Monday, August 5, 2024, at Jenkins Cemetery in Browning, Missouri (From Hwy 5, take East Main Street then South on Field Drive). A visitation will be held from 11:00AM to 12:00PM at Ruschmeier-Smith Funeral Home in Milan, Missouri.

Memorial contributions in Rosemary’s name can be made to Jenkins Cemetery or the Browning First Baptist Church.
