Rear-end collision on Highway 6 in Altamont leaves one driver injured

A rear-end collision occurred on August 13, 2024, at approximately 8:55 a.m. on Highway 6 at 165th Street in Altamont, Missouri. The accident involved a 2003 Chevrolet Impala and a 2022 GMC Savannah, both traveling eastbound.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened as the GMC Savannah, driven by 52-year-old Joel T. Avila Feria of Plant City, Florida, slowed to make a left-hand turn. The Chevrolet Impala, driven by 18-year-old Abigail M. Ethington of Cameron, Missouri, failed to slow down in time and rear-ended the GMC Savannah.

The Chevrolet Impala sustained minor damage and came to rest facing south on its wheels. The GMC Savannah, which did not suffer any damage, came to a controlled stop facing east.

Ethington, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Cameron Community Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) by the Daviess County Ambulance. Avila Feria was not injured in the accident. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Assistance at the scene was provided by the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.
