Public input sought for Trenton’s $300K demolition grant application

Efforts to improve the appearance of Trenton are one of the primary goals as the city prepares a grant application aimed at housing demolitions. A public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13, at 3 p.m. at Trenton City Hall.

 

 

Community Development Block Grants represent federal funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The current application shows that Trenton will request $300,000, with approximately $72,000 as a local cash match and $5,000 worth of in-kind services involving city officials.

Input is being sought from the public regarding what they feel are the strengths and weaknesses of the community. Green Hills Regional Planning Commission staff will be involved in writing the grant request for Trenton:

 

 

It is a competitive grant, meaning other communities are also applying. However, Soptic believes Trenton has a strong chance of receiving the demolition grant:

 

 

Soptic noted that the Missouri Department of Economic Development will use a scoring process for each grant application received. The mayor summed up her thoughts on those who attended the Tuesday hearing:
