The Pleasant View R-6 Board of Education convened on August 13 to set the tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year. The board approved a rate of $5.09 per $100 of assessed valuation, reflecting an increase of 9.97 cents.

During the meeting, the board accepted a bid from Zane Jones for a beef animal purchase at $1.90 per pound, continuing the district’s commitment to supporting local agriculture.

In preparation for the new school year, the board also approved several key items, including bus routes, free and reduced meal guidelines, the Annual Secretary of the Board Report, and a Missouri School Boards Association policy update for 2024-2025.

Superintendent Rebecca Steinhoff provided an update on the Pleasant View summer school, which took place in July. A total of 48 students from kindergarten through the sixth grade attended the program.

Looking ahead, the district announced two upcoming open house events: Keys Preschool will hold its open house on August 19 at 5:30 p.m., and an open house for Abby Richman’s preschool through eighth-grade classes is scheduled for August 20 at 6:00 p.m.

The first day of school for Pleasant View students is set for August 22, while Keys Preschool will begin classes on August 26. Additionally, there will be an early dismissal on August 30 to accommodate teacher professional development. The district will observe Labor Day on September 2, with no classes held.

In a closed session, the board approved the hiring of Chanel Rhea as a part-time paraprofessional for the 2024-2025 school year. Enrollment figures for the upcoming year were also confirmed during the meeting.
