City Administrator and Utility Director Ron Urton provided updates during the Monday night meeting of the Trenton City Council.

He announced that the electric department will begin installing streetlights along Highway 6 at the west edge of Trenton. Urton stated the new lights are to be placed eight feet away from a sidewalk to be built at that location. First Ward Councilman Lou Fisher, who lives nearby, mentioned that he often sees many people walking along the highway to Dollar General.

In response to another question, Urton said Trenton’s grant application was not approved for a proposed sidewalk along 16th Street between Park Lane and Oklahoma Avenue. Mayor Jackie Soptic stated that Trenton could apply to MoDOT again next year.

Urton reported that paperwork is being finalized, with federal funds expected to be released soon, for the construction of the six-bay hangar at the airport.

At the water treatment plant, Urton noted that Irvinbilt is working on modifications for the west basin; once complete, they will move to the east basin. Urton also reported that the diesel generators passed a RICE test for emissions, with the exception of one at the south substation, which developed a coolant leak and began overheating. Repairs are planned.

A contractor has been taking videos of sewer lines, and no point repair problems were identified. Therefore, the sewer lining is expected to begin in a couple of weeks.

Mayor Soptic announced that when City Attorney Kenton Kinney finishes with municipal court cases, held twice a month at the courthouse, he will go to City Hall to assist as needed. The mayor also mentioned that she won a scholarship to attend a Missouri Municipal League meeting next month in Branson, with no cost to the city.
