NCMC Student Elected as National Professional Agriculture Student officer

North Central Missouri College student, Calvin Basham has been elected as Vice President in the National Professional Agriculture Student Organization for the 2020 – 21 year.  

Calvin, son of Rob and Amy Basham from Cowgill, MO, lives on a small cattle farm in Ray County Missouri. Calvin currently attends college at North Central Missouri College in Trenton and is pursuing an Associate in Arts Transfer Degree along with a Crop Production Certificate. After completing his Associate’s Degree, he plans on transferring to Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. There, he would like to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy and Crop Science. Calvin says, “I plan on becoming a soil technician for the Natural Resource Conservation Service. I would like to go into this career because it has always been a goal of mine to work with soil and plants. I have always been interested in how to make soil healthier and to see better yields out of crops. I enjoy nature and working to preserve it along with improving our family farm and helping it grow.”  At NCMC, Calvin is a member of the Ag Club, Phi Theta Kappa, and a Barton Mentor.  Calvin will also be completing an internship this summer with NRCS.

Their duties as members of the national officer team include serving as a member of the PAS board of directors, planning and conducting the PAS national conference, and representing the national PAS organization at other local, state and national activities.  The other 2020 – 21 National PAS officers are President Adam Liegel (Wisconsin); Secretary Chloe’ Andresen (Missouri – State Fair Community College); 1st Vice President Mackenzie Craig (Minnesota); Vice Presidents Joelle Edwards (Minnesota), Gracie Larson (Wisconsin) and Jodie Weyland (Wisconsin).

Previous National PAS officers from NCMC were Joe Brinser (1983-84), Mike Hinkebein (1988-89), Michael Slater (2011-12), Clinton Fenimore (2012-13), Taylor Lynch and Shelby Chaney (2013-14).   

The National PAS Organization was founded in 1980 in Kansas City.  Its mission is to provide opportunities for individual growth, leadership and career preparation.  North Central Missouri College is a charter member of both the Missouri and National PAS organizations.
