The Muddy Creek on U.S. Route 136 has served the travelers in Mercer County well since 1929. Carrying more than 1,000 cars and trucks each day has taken its wear and tear, however, and the bridge is in need of replacement.

The bridge located two miles east of U.S. Route 65 will be rebuilt in the same alignment as the old bridge. Travelers over the new structure will see not only roadway improvements but also safety enhancements. The new bridge will be 32 feet wide with four-foot shoulders.

Contractors from Boone Construction Company of Columbia, working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, plan to begin the bridge replacement project on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017. Crews could close the bridge to all traffic beginning as early at 7 a.m., but the closure may not take place until the afternoon that day.

The road will remain closed through February. Motorists will be directed around the closure over U.S. Route 136, Route 6 and Route 5 via a signed detour.

All schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.
