A motorcyclist was seriously injured early Monday morning after colliding with a deer on Highway 168, two miles west of Palmyra, Missouri.

The accident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m., according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Warren W. Godfrey, 35, of Philadelphia, Missouri, was riding a 2008 Harley-Davidson eastbound on Highway 168 when the motorcycle struck a deer in the roadway. The impact caused the motorcycle to skid off the right side of the road and come to rest.

Godfrey, who was wearing safety equipment at the time of the crash, sustained serious injuries. He was transported by Marion County Ambulance to Blessing Hospital in Quincy for treatment. The Harley-Davidson was totaled and was towed from the scene by Heartland Towing in Hannibal.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Palmyra Fire Department.
