Medical issue leads to Highway 156 crash in Macon County

A single-vehicle accident occurred on August 23, 2024, at 5:50 a.m. on Highway 156, two miles west of South Gifford in Macon County. The incident involved a 2011 Hyundai Elantra driven by Danielle G. Edwards, 46, of La Plata, Missouri.

The Hyundai Elantra sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene by Stills. Edwards, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, experienced a medical emergency while driving westbound, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway.

Despite not wearing a seat belt, Edwards did not suffer any injuries in the accident, however, she was transported by Macon County Ambulance to Northeast Regional Medical Center as a precaution.

The accident drew a response from multiple agencies, including Corporal Borgmeyer of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, Macon County Ambulance, and La Plata First Responders.
