Margaret Turner obit photoMargaret Juanita Hughes Turner of rural Brimson passed away Monday, August 5, 2024, at Sunnyview Nursing Home in Trenton, MO.

Margaret always thought she was born on November 27, 1932, but her birth certificate claims it was November 22, 1932. She was the oldest daughter of Elsie Howard Hughes and George W. Hughes. She spent her early years helping to raise her brothers in the hills of central Missouri around Thomas and Clifton Hill. On November 18, 1956, she married George Robert Turner. They stayed in the Thomas Hill area until 1964 when the power plant forced a move to the rural Brimson area.

Margaret was active in 4-H and the Grundy County Extension when her sons were young and served for years as an election judge in Grundy County. She actively attended Melbourne Baptist Church and helped with vacation Bible school for years.

She is survived by her four brothers, Donald Hughes of Paducah, KY; Kenny Hughes of Springfield, MO; Bill Hughes of Georgia; and Jimmy Hughes of St. Peters, MO. She is also survived by her son Michael and Stacy Turner of St. Joseph, MO; son Paul Turner of rural Brimson; daughter Lisa and Mitchell Malone of Montana; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Per Margaret’s request, there will be a graveside service only on Monday, August 12, at 1 p.m. at Eldad Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Clifton Hill, MO.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to St. Luke’s Hospice or Melbourne Baptist Church in her name.
