Lake of the Ozarks boating incident injures Michigan woman

A boating incident at Lake of the Ozarks left a 49-year-old woman with moderate injuries Saturday morning. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred at approximately 10:05 a.m. at the 25-mile mark on the main channel.

According to the report, a Sonic 36SS operated by Martin A. Bowker, 51, of Holland, Michigan, was traveling upstream when it impacted a wake. The sudden movement caused a passenger, identified as Danielle J. Vanderlaan of Comstock Park, Michigan, to be lifted into the air and then fall, striking the floor of the boat.

Vanderlaan, who was not wearing a flotation device at the time, sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to Lake Regional Hospital for treatment. Bowker, the boat’s driver, was not injured in the incident and was wearing a safety device.
