The Kirksville Police Department has positively identified the male victim who drowned at the Woodwinds apartment complex as 27-year-old Desir Davidson of Kirksville, formerly of Haiti. The KPD extends its gratitude to everyone who provided information and assistance in this case and offers heartfelt condolences to Davidson’s family during this difficult time.

At approximately 7:46 p.m. on Monday, July 15, 2024, the KPD and other first responders were dispatched to the Woodwinds apartment complex in response to reports of an unresponsive male in the swimming pool. Upon arrival, responders located the individual and transported him to Northeast Regional Medical Center, where he was later declared deceased.

Initially, the KPD requested public assistance in identifying the victim. The deceased was described as a black male, approximately between 16 and 21 years old, 5-foot-8, weighing between 130 and 140 pounds, with black hair and a short black goatee. At the time, he was wearing a grey tank top, black and white athletic shorts, and black and white Reebok sandals. He also wore a distinctive bracelet with yellow beads featuring crosses. The police initially suspected the victim might be Congolese or Haitian but refrained from releasing a photo in hopes of identifying him and notifying his family first.
