An Akron, Ohio, man was sentenced in federal court for transporting more than 27 kilograms (59 pounds) of methamphetamine through Kansas City, Missouri, aboard a bus.

Rogeric Romone Clark, 40, received a sentence of 12 years in federal prison without the possibility of parole from U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs.

Clark had earlier pleaded guilty on April 11, 2024, to a charge of possessing methamphetamine with the intent to distribute.

The incident leading to Clark’s arrest occurred on Dec. 5, 2023, when members of the Missouri Western Interdiction and Narcotics Task Force (MoWIN) were conducting interdiction activities at a Kansas City bus station. Passengers disembarking from a bus originating in Los Angeles, California, were subject to a police drug-sniffing dog’s inspection. The dog alerted officers to a suitcase later confirmed to be Clark’s. Investigators also identified another suitcase belonging to Clark.

A detective contacted Clark, who acknowledged ownership of one suitcase and provided consent for the officers to open it. However, upon the suitcase being opened, Clark attempted to flee on foot through the rear parking area but was quickly apprehended after falling during the chase.

A search of both suitcases revealed 30 one-pound bundles in each, containing a combined total of 27.2 kilograms of methamphetamine.

This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashleigh Ragner and was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Kansas City Police Department.
