Jill Slaughter obit photoJill Ann Slaughter was born on December 19, 1975, in Leon, Iowa, and passed away on August 1, 2024, at KU Medical Center at the age of 48. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James Lee and Helen McLain, and paternal grandmother, Geraldine Bancroft.

She is survived by a large and loving family, including her husband Jason Slaughter and son Jaxon Slaughter of the home, daughter Aubrey Slaughter (Erik Helton) of Bethany, Mo., son Jade Slaughter (Shambree) of Hatfield, Mo., and daughter LaKeesha Hamaker (Hunter) of Eagleville, Mo.; four beautiful granddaughters, Myla Ann, Indy Faye, Navee Jolee, and Eleanor Louise; parents Gary and Kathy Russell of Eagleville, Mo.; sister Valerie McBroom (Chris) of Blythedale, Mo.; brothers Clint Russell (Kelli) of Bethany, Mo., and Jordan Russell (Alicia) of Eagleville, Mo.; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Jill was baptized in Brooklyn Falls as a child and made sure to remind Jason of this on a recent drive home when they happened to drive by. She graduated from North Harrison in 1994. Jill spent many years providing in-home daycare services. However, the job she treasured the most was being a mom and “Mamaw.”

Jill’s family was her life, and she always showed enormous love for every single member. Her kids and grandkids always came first. Jill and Jason started the tradition of a family vacation every summer in 2006 when they took a trip to Yellowstone National Park. Jill loved the beach but often settled for many mountain trips to Estes Park, Colorado. Jill often sacrificed other things to ensure that family trips happened every year, including one just a few weeks ago to Southern Utah.

Jill married Jason Slaughter on October 20, 2001, in Bethany, Mo. People no doubt thought they were crazy—getting engaged after only knowing each other for about six weeks and married in less than six months! But their bond was unbreakable, and Jill led the development of a strong family structure that left no doubt that family was the most important thing, always.

Jill leaves a strong legacy of trust, loyalty, and love that will live in the hearts of her family forever.

The family invites friends and family to gather for visitation on Tuesday, August 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the Eagleville Community Church. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 7, at 10:30 a.m., also at the church, with burial to follow at the Masonic Cemetery of Eagleville. Memorial donations may be made to a memorial fund established by the family or to the Harrison County Cancer Transportation Fund.
