A Jefferson City, Missouri, man has been sentenced in federal court for the armed robbery of a local credit union.

Tre Joseph Connor, 30, received a 16-year federal prison sentence without the possibility of parole. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Roseann A. Ketchmark. In addition to the prison term, Connor was ordered to pay $111,700 in restitution to the victim.

Connor was found guilty on February 16, 2024, of one count of bank robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to court evidence, Connor entered the River Region Credit Union located at 3608 W. Truman Blvd. in Jefferson City on the morning of January 19, 2023. He was dressed in all black, including a ski mask and gloves, and was armed with a Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol. Connor jumped over the customer counter into the employee-only area, demanded access to the vault, and forced a credit union employee to open it. He stole approximately $111,700, which he placed in a backpack before fleeing through a side exit.

The stolen money was never recovered.

Investigators were able to identify Connor through security footage from various sources, including Walmart, where he had purchased the clothing and other items used during the robbery.

The investigation revealed that Connor began planning the robbery as early as January 4, 2023. He conducted multiple internet searches on topics such as “bank robbery,” “when do most banks typically have the most money,” and “how long does it take police to respond to a bank robbery.”

Under federal law, individuals with felony convictions are prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. Connor, who has previous felony convictions for dissemination of private sexual images and harassment, was on probation when he committed the robbery.

This case was prosecuted by Supervisory Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren E. Kummerer and Assistant U.S. Attorney Melissa A. Pierce. The investigation was conducted by the Jefferson City Police Department, the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Boone County Sheriff’s Department.
