Horse-drawn buggy rear-ended by SUV on Highway 156 near LaPlata

A horse-drawn buggy was struck from behind by a 2011 Buick Enclave on Highway 156, four miles west of LaPlata, on Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m., according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Daniel Schrock, 68, of LaPlata, was driving the buggy eastbound when it was rear-ended by the Buick Enclave, driven by Glen Clark, 74, of Kirksville. Both vehicles were traveling eastbound at the time of the collision.

The buggy was destroyed in the crash, and Schrock, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries. He was transported by Macon County Ambulance to University Hospital for treatment. The Buick Enclave was also totaled and was towed from the scene by Kirksville Autoworks. Clark was wearing a seat belt and did not report any injuries.

The report did not list the status of the horse.

Authorities from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office, LaPlata Police Department, and LaPlata Fire Department assisted at the scene.
