A two-vehicle collision occurred on September 3, 2024, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Route O, five miles east of Ravenwood in Gentry County, Missouri. The crash involved a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse and a horse and buggy, both traveling westbound.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Cody L. Adwell, 45, of Ravenwood, Missouri, struck the rear of a horse and buggy operated by Freeman J. Miller, 21, also from Ravenwood. The impact resulted in the horse and buggy sustaining total damage. Adwell’s Chevrolet Traverse sustained moderate damage and was secured roadside to be towed at a later time.

The crash caused Miller to be ejected from the buggy. He suffered serious injuries and was transported by Grand River Ambulance to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph. Miller was exempt from using a seat belt due to his vehicle type.

Adwell, who was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, was not injured. Both vehicles came to rest in the westbound lane of Route O, with the horse and buggy remaining in the roadway.

There was no report on the status of the horse following the crash.

The Gentry County and Nodaway County Sheriff’s Departments assisted at the scene.
