Maryville man injured in Highway 46 crash faces multiple charges

A Maryville man sustained serious injuries in a single-vehicle accident on Highway 46, two miles west of Maryville, on July 11, 2024. The crash occurred at approximately 6:00 p.m. according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident involved a 2003 Dodge Dakota driven by Cody J. Scopel, 37, of Maryville, Missouri. The vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 46 when it veered off the south side of the roadway, overturned, and came to rest on its driver’s side in a cornfield, facing west.

Scopel, who was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, was transported by Nodaway County Ambulance to Mosaic Medical Center in Maryville. The Dodge Dakota was totaled and towed from the scene by Shells.

Scopel was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving causing a crash and no seat belt. He was released to Mosaic Medical Center for medical treatment.

The Nodaway County Sheriff’s Department assisted the Missouri State Highway Patrol at the scene.
