The Grundy County Senior Citizens’ Services Tax Fund Board set the tax levy at five cents on the $100 assessed valuation on August 23. The tax, established in 2007, aims to improve the health, nutrition, and quality of life for Grundy County residents aged 60 and older.

The Grundy County Commission appoints a board of directors to oversee the Senior Citizens’ Services Tax Fund. Current members of the board include Chairman R.W. Keuhn, Vice Chairman Delores Newton, Secretary/Treasurer Diana Hoppe, Max Dickerson, Cyndee Chrisman, Rodney Herring, and Tom Witten.

The board reviews funding requests from various Grundy County organizations, determining which requests will be approved for the upcoming year and allocating a percentage of the collected funds to each entity. The goal is to distribute funds to initiatives that will best serve the senior community.

Several organizations received a second distribution of funds this month for the year 2024. These entities include the North 65 Center, Green Hills Volunteers, the Community Food Pantry of Grundy County, Serve Link, OATS, and the Green Hills Community Action Agency. These groups are expected to use the funds to enhance their services and support for senior citizens within the county.

Looking ahead, a legal notice announcing the 2025 request for the funding application process will be published in the Republican Times. Organizations interested in applying for funding are encouraged to review the notice for further details on the application procedure.
