Grundy County property tax rate hearing scheduled for August 27th

The Grundy County Commission will hold a public hearing on August 27th to discuss the proposed property tax rates for 2024. The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in the county commission room on the second floor of the Grundy County Courthouse in Trenton.

The proposed tax rate for the upcoming year is set at 20.4 cents per $100 of assessed valuation, maintaining the same rate as the previous year. The tax rate ceiling is established at 39.66 cents, while the maximum rate, after accounting for the sales tax rollback, is 20.27 cents.

For the current tax year, the total assessed valuation in Grundy County amounts to $146,703,715, reflecting an increase of $826,390 from the previous year. The valuation comprises $75,738,855 for real estate, $37,435,208 for personal property, and $33,529,715 for railroad and utility properties.

Grundy County’s new construction for 2024 is valued at $515,210, with the revenue directly derived from this new construction, at the proposed tax rate, estimated to be $1,112.
