The Trenton Rotary Club held its “Fifth Thursday” meeting on August 29 at the Grundy County Museum. The event included a regular meeting and a tour of the museum. Scott Sharp presided over the meeting, with Dan Wilford giving the opening prayer. Diane Lowrey served as the program chairman.

Following a brief introduction about the museum, Rotary members were given a tour of current exhibits. The exhibits featured notable figures from Grundy County, including long-time Rotary member, the late Bob Gallup. Other notable individuals in the exhibit were the Levi and Rachel Moore family, Bill and Juanita Denslow, Leonard Lame, and the Sutton Brothers.

Two special exhibits were also highlighted during the tour. One display featured friendship quilts representing various organizations in the community. Another exhibit showcased vintage aprons made by an individual aiming to set a Guinness World Record for the most aprons made, with over 1,000 aprons already completed.

During the business portion of the meeting, club members were encouraged to contribute items for a silent auction. The auction will be part of the club’s annual fish fry, scheduled for Saturday, September 14, at the Rock Barn. The event will run from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and will offer both eat-in and carry-out meals. Tickets are available for purchase from Rotary Club members, priced at $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12.

Additionally, it was announced that a planning meeting for the Missouri Day Parade would be held in early September. The parade, organized by the Rotary Club, is set for Saturday, October 19, with Steve Taylor and Brian Upton serving as co-chairmen.

Looking ahead, the program for the September 5 Rotary Club meeting will feature Barb Spencer, who will speak about the Church Women United Thrift Shop. The thrift shop is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The meeting will take place at noon in the BTC Bank community room. Doug Tye and Tom Witten are the September program chairmen, while Daniel Gott serves as the sergeant at arms.
