Grundy County Ambulance Director Matt Walker provided an update during the Grundy County Commission meeting on August 20. Walker is currently exploring the purchase of new scoop stretchers, with a goal of equipping each ambulance with one. Additionally, he has ordered two new bariatric-sized binder lifts and is planning to replace missing backboards after recent transfers.

Walker reported that 10 students are enrolled in the fall emergency medical technician class. He is also considering hiring a quality assurance/improvement officer, a new position for the department. However, the decision will depend on the third-quarter budget figures to determine if the position can be added this year.

In other business, Commissioner Don Sager directed the Road and Bridge Department to acquire a door to complete the Laredo 911 building. Presiding Commissioner Phillip Ray signed several documents, including a letter of agency and authorization for the ongoing 911 project. He also approved the final submission packet and payment invoices related to a bridge on Northeast 122nd Street and two additional bridges on Northeast 62nd Street.

Ray also addressed a concern from Madison Township regarding brush that needed cutting. He made phone calls to landowners as the first step before formal brush letters are sent out.

Additionally, Ray made a call to Vestis regarding the delayed delivery of rugs, mops, and uniforms for the Road and Bridge Department. Vestis, who is scheduled to service the courthouse every two weeks, has not been present since late June. Ray contacted both the company’s call center and Grundy County’s territory manager.

The Commission also addressed a past-due balance with the Missouri Network Alliance. An email was sent to review the county’s billing records dating back to January 2023 to determine the outstanding amounts and the responsible parties.
