Grundy County Board of Ed approves tax levy and staff stipends

The Grundy County R-5 Board of Education approved the annual tax levy on August 15. The levy rate remains at $5.9207, unchanged from the previous year. The district’s assessed valuation increased slightly to $12,438,603, reflecting a rise of $15,213 from last year’s valuation.

As part of the previously approved baseline grant, the board approved stipends for staff members. Full-time certified staff earning over $40,000 will receive a $1,000 stipend, while part-time certified staff will receive a $500 stipend. Non-certified staff members will receive a $250 stipend.

The board also approved a cooperative athletic agreement with the Tri-County School District of Jamesport for fall baseball. This agreement will include participation from the Newtown-Harris School District.

Preliminary bus routes for the Grundy R-5 district were approved, with final routes to be determined at the next board meeting.

Additionally, the board approved the Special Education Compliance Plan from the Department of Education and the Annual Secretary of the Board Report.

A discussion was held regarding the establishment of a trap shooting team for the FFA chapter. The board formed a committee to develop guidelines and recommendations for the team, with a report expected at the next board meeting.

The board received an update on construction projects within the district, including the installation of new windows in four high school classrooms and new doors in the agriculture shop. Work continues on the outer wall of the elementary school building.

Reports were also given on maintenance efforts in both the elementary and high school buildings.

Following a closed session, it was announced that Angela Huffman was approved as a part-time nurse for one and a half days per week at Grundy R-5. Rachel Lorenz-Walton was hired as a part-time instructor to teach two band classes.

The board accepted the resignation of Elementary School Custodian Jerad Fordyce.
