Freddy Ray Sowder, age 86, a resident of Marshall, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Life Care Center in Carrollton, Missouri.

Freddy was born the son of Everett and Ruby Mildred (Darr) Sowder on October 4, 1937, in Ludlow, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, from 1954 until 1956. He was united in marriage to Wanda Nichols on June 6, 1965, in Chillicothe, Missouri. She preceded him in death on July 30, 2016.

Freddy worked as a driver for the United States Postal Service. He loved to put together model ships and boats. In his later years, his life revolved around taking care of his Yorkie, Tippy.

Survivors include one son, Freddy Sowder Jr., and wife Stacie of Trenton, Missouri; one daughter, Linda Sowder of Chillicothe, Missouri; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Keith Sowder of San Antonio, Texas; two step-brothers, Rex and Jimmy; and two step-sisters, Eloise and Helen. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wanda; infant son, Robert; and brother, Raymond Sowder.

Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Chillicothe, Missouri, on Friday, August 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
