Fire destroys house at 515 East 9th Court in Trenton

A fire gutted a vacant house Monday morning at 515 East 9th Court in Trenton. The cause is under investigation by the Missouri Division of Fire Safety, Fire Investigation Unit.

Trenton firefighters received the call at 5:25 a.m. Monday morning regarding a fire at 9th Court and Grant Street. Upon arrival, the rear of the house was completely engulfed in flames. Two attack lines were deployed to extinguish the fire, and firefighters were on the scene for approximately three hours.

Chief Brandon Gibler stated that the house and its contents are considered a total loss. He noted that the house was unoccupied and had reportedly been vacant for several years. The last owners were listed as Forrest and Alice Shirley, who are deceased.

Assistance was provided by the Grundy County Rural Fire Department, Grundy County Emergency Medical Services, Trenton Police, and Trenton Municipal Utilities.
