Fatal crash on Interstate 70 involves Ford F250 and Freightliner

On August 7, 2024, at approximately 9:33 a.m., a fatal accident occurred on Interstate 70 eastbound at the 161.8-mile marker. The crash involved a 2008 Ford F250 driven by Clayton S. Hulme, 27, of Troy, Missouri, and a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia driven by Thomas J. Goin, 54, of Tonganoxie, Kansas.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Ford F250 crossed the center of the roadway and struck the towed unit of the Freightliner. The Ford F250 skidded off the left side of the roadway, striking several median cable posts before coming to rest on its top along the left shoulder. The vehicle was totaled and towed from the scene by Economy Towing.

Clayton Hulme, the driver of the Ford F250, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Boone/Callaway County Medical Examiner Stacey Huck. Hulme was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident. His body was transported to the medical examiner’s office at the University of Missouri Hospital.

Thomas Goin, the driver of the Freightliner Cascadia, was not injured in the accident. The Freightliner sustained moderate damage and was also towed from the scene by Economy Towing.

This accident marks Troop F’s second fatal accident for August and the 28th of 2024. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Sergeant M. A. Dickens and Corporal D. J. Dalton.
