Fatal crash on Highway 61 claims life of Maryland Heights man

A 22-year-old man from Maryland Heights, Missouri, died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 61 north of Deacon Drive in St. Louis. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the accident occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m.

According to the report, Dominic R. Buchholz was driving a 2016 Honda CBR650F northbound in lane 1 of Highway 61. Another northbound vehicle, a 2008 Honda Element driven by Ronald J. Mink, 70, of St. Louis, turned left onto northbound Highway 61 and merged into lane 1. Buchholz’s motorcycle struck the rear of the Honda Element and overturned. A third vehicle, a 2023 Yamaha MTN690 driven by Tyler J. Garrett, 30, of Cadet, Missouri, then struck Buchholz’s motorcycle and also overturned.

Buchholz, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel at 8:20 p.m. His body was taken to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office by Lonning Mortuary. Mink sustained minor injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by Des Peres Fire and EMS. Garrett’s condition was not reported.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol was assisted by Corporal Mendez, Trooper O’Sullivan, Trooper Carson, and the Frontenac Police Department.
