An Excello man faces multiple felonies after law enforcement responded to a call of an alleged assault in progress in Excello on August 5.

Thirty-three-year-old Mark James Baggos has been charged with first-degree assault or attempt, first-degree property damage, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest, detention, or stop by fleeing, creating a substantial risk of serious injury or death to any person. Bond was set at $50,000 cash only.

A probable cause statement accuses Baggos of using an ax to damage a vehicle, outbuildings, a shelter house, and a shelter house kitchen. He reportedly came after another person, swinging the ax.

After law enforcement arrived, Baggos allegedly threw a fake grenade and ran into Thomas Hill Lake. State troopers arrived with a boat and had to wrestle him into it before placing him in handcuffs.
