Princeton resident Matt Krohn led from start to finish to earn the Republican nomination as 3rd Judicial Circuit Court Judge. Krohn collected 75 percent of the total vote from the four counties of the district compared to 25 percent for Steven Hudson of Trenton. The vote count overall for Krohn was 3,952, and Hudson received 1,313. Krohn carried all four counties. He won Grundy County 1,441 to 638—getting a majority in each polling location. He took Mercer County 703 to 221. Krohn won in Harrison County by 1,150 to 295. He also took Putnam County 658 to 159. Krohn advances to the November general election where he will be unopposed for the six-year term that begins in January. Hudson serves as circuit court judge until the end of his term in December.

Grundy County will have two new commissioners beginning in January. The two incumbents were defeated in yesterday’s Republican primary election. Kevin Ireland won the first district seat with 675 votes. Don Sager received 385. Brian Johnson won the second district seat with 565 votes, and Brad Chumbley had 428. Neither Ireland nor Johnson has an opponent in the November election. Five unopposed candidates won Republican nominations for Grundy County offices. Only Public Administrator Adria Moore has an opponent, Independent candidate Glen Briggs, in the November election.

It was a 36 percent voter turnout (2,261 of 6,250) for Grundy County. Washington Township voters approved their tax levy 13 to 5. Grundy County voters were opposed to Amendment One but favored Amendment Four.

Mercer County was assured of having two new commissioners as the incumbents did not run. Republican voters selected Denny Power in the first district and Gary Porter in the second district. Each defeated two other persons. Four others were unopposed for nominations to their offices. The sheriff’s office was not on Mercer County ballots as no one filed. It was nearly a 40 percent voter turnout for Mercer County.

Daviess County had a 32 percent turnout of voters. Winning contests for Republican nominations were Larry Adams Jr. as sheriff and Lacey Corwin as the collector-treasurer.

Republican nominations in Sullivan County went to Michael Williams as western district commissioner, Angel Oder for assessor, and Scott Frazier for sheriff. Voters within the city of Milan defeated a proposed local use tax. Ninety were in favor, and 120 were opposed. Sullivan County’s turnout was about 33 percent.

Winning nominating races in Harrison County were Republicans Mike Smith as north district commissioner and Jim Holcomb as south district commissioner. There was a 33.5 percent voter turnout for Harrison County.

Livingston County had a voter turnout of 34.25 percent. Republican nominations were won by Bryce Anderson for western district commissioner and Nathan Zabka for coroner.

Caldwell County selected Republicans Randy Howell and Rex Hibler for east and west district commissioners. Caldwell had a 28 percent voter turnout.

Voters in Linn County gave the Republican nod as sheriff to Carrie Melte. It was a 31 percent voter turnout.

Putnam County Republicans selected Robert Valentine as the western district commissioner with Anna Fleshman as coroner. Putnam had a 26 percent turnout.

Congressman Sam Graves collected the biggest percentage of votes to defeat three challengers for the Republican nomination. Graves received 78 percent of the votes. Brandon Kleinmyer had nearly 11 percent. Freddie Griffin Jr. received almost 8.5 percent Republican votes across northern Missouri. The Democratic nomination went to Pam May, who collected 72 percent of her party’s votes in the primary election. Graves and May advance to the November election.
