Jim graduated from Dixon High School, where he developed his lifelong passion for the road, leading him to a successful career as a professional long-haul trucker. His work allowed him to enjoy sightseeing across the country, yet he always made time for fishing, kayaking, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A devoted family man, Jim’s greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Josh) Lance of Chillicothe, Missouri; his son, Raymond (Kasey Blackwood) Bender of Springfield, Missouri; his daughter, Annie (Matt) Albee of Amboy, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Shirley Bender of Missouri; and his four grandchildren, Liz Lance, Ava Lance, Damian Bender, and Mandi Ritter. He is also survived by his former spouse, Angela Koch of Amboy, Illinois; his loyal dog, Gracie; and his brother in heart, Roger Clayton. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Allen Bender, and his brother, Robert “Bob” Bender.

Memorial services for Jim will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor his memory and celebrate his life. Jim’s legacy as a caring father, grandfather, and avid outdoorsman will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him. Memorial contributions may be made to the Earl James Bender Memorial Fund (please make checks payable to Theresa Lance) and may be left at or mailed to Lindley Funeral Home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, Missouri 64601.
