Driver falls asleep, crashes Mercedes van on Highway 5 in Linn County

A single-vehicle accident occurred early Thursday morning on Highway 5 at Linneus, resulting in minor injuries to the driver. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened at approximately 3:52 a.m. on August 15, 2024.

Alejandro Menendez, a 38-year-old man from Fultondale, Alabama, was driving a 2024 Mercedes van northbound when he reportedly fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle traveled off the roadway, causing extensive damage to the van. Menendez was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Emergency responders, including the Linn County Ambulance and Linneus First Responders, arrived at the scene. Menendez sustained minor injuries and was transported by Linn County Ambulance to Pershing Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was towed from the scene by Precision Auto.
