Driver falls asleep causing crash on Highway CC near Savannah

An 18-year-old man from Amazonia, Missouri, was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Highway CC and County Road 418, four miles west of Savannah, on July 21, 2024, at 10:50 a.m.

According to Sergeant D.R. Reuter of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Marshall A. Underwood was driving a 2015 Jeep northbound on Highway CC when he fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle veered off the roadway, striking a mailbox and then an embankment before coming to rest on its wheels on the west side of the road.

Blanca E. Sanchez, an 18-year-old woman from Amazonia, Missouri, was a passenger in the vehicle. She sustained minor injuries and was taken to Mosaic Life Care by a private vehicle. Both Underwood and Sanchez were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The Jeep was totaled and towed by Blue Knight Towing. The accident was assisted by Trooper A.M. Mapel, the Andrew County Sheriff’s Department, and Andrew County EMS.
