A two-vehicle collision occurred on August 13, 2024, at approximately 9:40 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 136 and Interstate 29, three miles east of Rockport, Missouri. The crash involved a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee and a 2017 GMC Terrain.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident happened as the Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 63-year-old Charles A. Voss of Odebolt, Iowa, was traveling westbound on Highway 136. As Voss attempted to turn southbound onto Interstate 29, the front driver’s side of his vehicle struck the front driver’s side of the eastbound GMC Terrain, driven by 43-year-old Damien J. Pritt of Rockport, Missouri.

The impact caused the GMC Terrain to travel off the south side of the roadway, where it struck a guardrail before returning to the road. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels, partially blocking the eastbound lane of Highway 136, facing east. The Jeep Grand Cherokee also came to rest on its wheels, partially blocking the eastbound lane, facing south.

Forty-eight-year-old Danyal R. Coon, and a 17-year-old female juvenile, both from Rockport, Missouri, were injured in the crash. Coon sustained moderate injuries, while the juvenile sustained minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts and were transported by private vehicle to Fairfax Community Hospital for treatment. Voss was not reported to have been injured.

Both vehicles sustained moderate damage and were towed from the scene by Double M Towing.

Assistance at the scene was provided by Corporal K.L. Ebersold, the Atchison County Sheriff’s Office, and Atchison/Holt EMS.
