A traffic stop in Chillicothe led to the arrest of a 44-year-old Illinois man on drug charges. The incident occurred at the intersection of Washington and Highway 36 when a Chillicothe police officer pulled over a vehicle for a lane violation.

During the stop, the officer developed reasonable suspicion of a crime. K9 Enoch and Capt. Grider were called to the scene. The K9 alerted to the odor of narcotics emanating from the vehicle, prompting a probable cause search. Inside the vehicle, officers found a green tin containing a tan crystal substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The driver was arrested and transported to the Chillicothe Police Department. During processing, officers discovered a broken glass pipe with white residue in the patrol vehicle. The driver admitted to breaking the pipe in an attempt to hide it from the officers.

The suspect was then transported to the Caldwell County Detention Center, where he awaits formal charges from Livingston County Prosecutor Adam Warren.
