On Friday, August 16, 2024, officers from the Chillicothe Police Department responded to two separate incidents involving children in need of assistance.

At 12:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Locust Street in response to a report of a toddler found in the roadway. Upon arrival, officers successfully returned the child to their home. It was determined that the child had been left in the care of a babysitter, who had lost track of the child. The officers contacted the mother to inform her of the situation. The investigation is ongoing, with charges of child endangerment pending.

Later that day, at 1:33 p.m., officers assisted the Children’s Division at a residence in the 1100 block of Hillside Drive. The officers were called to assist in the removal of a 16-year-old juvenile from the home due to concerns regarding current living conditions. Following the investigation and with the cooperation of the juvenile’s mother, the juvenile has been safely placed in another home.
