Charges filed following UTV crash in Livingston County

A crash involving a 2016 Can-Am UTV resulted in injuries to two men on Thursday night, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 11, 2024, at the intersection of Highway 320 and Highway 377, about four miles north of Hale. The UTV, driven by 24-year-old Justin K. Stuart of Hale, Missouri, was traveling westbound when Stuart failed to negotiate a turn. The vehicle overturned, ejecting both occupants.

Stuart, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries. He was driven by a private vehicle to Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe for treatment.

The passenger, 33-year-old Jesus J. Berumen of Edgerton, Kansas, suffered serious injuries. Berumen, who was also not wearing a seat belt, was transported by the Livingston County Ambulance to Hedrick Medical Center.

The UTV sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene.

In addition to the injuries, Justin Stuart was charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class D felony causing serious physical injury, and operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner. He was released to Hedrick Medical Center for medical treatment.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene.
