A driver was taken into custody after allegedly striking a police vehicle and a building in Cameron on Tuesday afternoon, December 12th.

Cameron Police Chief Rick Bashor reported that a police officer was on routine patrol when he radioed the 911 dispatch center, stating a vehicle was following him closely. The suspect vehicle then allegedly hit the patrol vehicle.

Officers were dispatched to the first officer’s location. The officer called for assistance and continued driving toward the police station, while the suspect vehicle reportedly continued to chase him and ram the patrol vehicle.

Bashor reported that the suspect vehicle then drove across the fire department parking lot and struck the building.

The police chief stated that Cameron officers blocked the suspect vehicle and took the driver into custody.

An ambulance transported the suspect to a hospital, and a private vehicle conveyed the officer to the hospital for examination. The names of the suspect and officer were not released.

The Cameron Police Department has requested assistance from the Highway Patrol in the investigation. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the incident.
